The Wizard of Oz

To many, The Wizard of Oz is thought of a movie that is full of munchkins, witches, lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) However, before The Wizard of Oz became the movie that we know and love today, it was a book written by L. Frank Baum. The book titled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was published in 1900 and was immediately adored by its readers. In 1902, the book became the basis of a stage play and nearly 40 years later inspired the well-known film, The Wizard of Oz. Filled with make-believe characters, catchy songs, and bright, vivid colors, this movie is recognized as a film that both children and adults can enjoy. However, the seemingly simple storyline has many underlying themes and metaphors that transform this book into a political based story.
